Research synopsis:

My research focuses on Borrelia burgdorferi, which causes Lyme disease. Borrelia have a complex life cycle, being transmitted by blood between mice, ticks, and humans. This means that they have to adapt to a series of very different environments to persist in the environment and cause disease. I am studying the molecular mechanisms the bacterium uses to transition between the different hosts to help development of new vaccines and treatments.
